Invitation: Global Youth Summit 2018
I got an invitation to attend Global Youth Summit 2018! :)
The Global Youth Summit (GYS) is the largest gathering youth in the Philippines. It is also a space for young people to share their ideas and utilize their diverse skill sets, knowledge, and networks to effectively address persistent problems of today.
The Global Youth Summit (GYS) is the largest gathering youth in the Philippines. It is also a space for young people to share their ideas and utilize their diverse skill sets, knowledge, and networks to effectively address persistent problems of today.
The 2018 topics are selected from the top 5 Global Goals and issues that impact the world and the youth The following themes for this year are:
1. Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
2. Partnership for the Goals
3. Good Health and Well Being
4. Affordable and Clean Energy
5. Gender Equality
The event is a youth development platform aligned with the achievement of the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). GYS selected youth leaders who will create policy recommendations that will address these five issues and youth entrepreneurship.
It was a successful event for it was attended by more than 19,200 young leaders and foreign delegates! :)
What stuck in my mind after the event was the statement said by Mr. Titon Mitra (Country Director for United Nations Development Programme), "Don't Stop Halfway."
As millennials, we always want to get everything in an instant; from food preparation up to the work we aspire. We want everything quicker and faster. And if we don't get it immediately, we tend to give up. This is true and timely. I almost feel like giving up to the dream I want since I was a kid. Thankfully, I was able to hear Mr. Mitra and I was inspired and motivated again. I would never get tired chasing my dreams! :)
Global Youth Summit is supported by SM Cares, the Corporate Responsibility arm of SM Prime Holding Inc. Its advocacies include Programs on persons with Disabilities, Children and Youth, Women and Breastfeeding Mothers, Environment Sustainability, Senior Citizens, and Overseas Filipino Workers (SM Global Pinoy).
